Book Records/Concord RecordsBack in October, The National frontman Matt Berninger revealed that he was working on his debut solo album, titled Serpentine Prison. Seven months later, we now have a release date and a first preview.
Serpentine Prison will be released October 2, and you can download the title track now via digital outlets.
As Berninger explains, he first wrote the song “Serpentine Prison” in December 2018, just after The National had finished recording their latest album, 2019’s I Am Easy to Find.
“For a long time I had been writing songs for movies and musicals and other projects where I needed to get inside someone else’s head and convey another person’s feelings,” he says. “I liked doing that but I was ready to dig back into my own garbage and this was the first thing that came out.”
Meanwhile, The National recently announced that their summer tour has been postponed due to COVID-19.
