ABC/Randy HolmesA new Deftones album will hit your ears this summer. Hopefully.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, frontman Chino Moreno shares that he and his band mates “plan on [the album] coming out this summer.” Of course, what with the whole global pandemic thing going on, there’s still a fair amount of uncertainty, especially regarding Deftones’ planned tour kicking off in July.
“It’s not looking like we’re going to be able to get out there [on tour] this summer to support it,” Moreno says. So does it make sense to put it out when you can’t support it? Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t know.”
“I think that’s something that we’re going to have to figure out sooner than later,” he adds. “But I think our mindset right now is just finishing it completely and making sure that it’s great. And then taking it from there.”
The new album, whenever it arrives, will be the follow-up to 2016’s Gore.
Elsewhere in the interview, Moreno discusses the possibility of a re-released version of the beloved 2000 Deftones album White Pony. Apparently, the band had an idea to released a remixed edition of White Pony and call it Black Stallion.
“We still may try to do something similar to that,” Moreno says. “I mean, who will be involved? I’m not quite sure yet.”
